Everybody has their flaws. And everybody has their dreams. Depending on perspective a quality can be quite easily both. I have wanderlust. And in this regard, 2012 has been very satisfying (and if plans go well, will continue to be so).
During the start of the Easter holiday, I went on a Berlin Cultural Trip with my Sixth Form. Felt rather like the last hurrah, a goodbye to this stage of my education. Maybe even a delayed goodbye to childhood. Exams are soon, only about a month and half of lessons left and most of material has been covered. Then again, sixth form hasn’t felt like proper school for a while – it’s been work. Heavy, daunting, hard work. So the break was rather nice too ;)
I’m not sure if it was due to cutting corners or simply bad luck but our flight was very early in the morning. The couch from sixth form left at 3 am. Painfully early: but also somehow more than appropriate, everyones barriers were down due to lack of sleep and so the conversation flowed easy for a while before we settled for a nap with our own personal music players.
Am not the biggest fan of airports, security procedures etc. but I know the routine well enough not to be bothered by any of it (apart from passport controls, never find them pleasant). Flying was alright too – had the most cheerful pilot imaginable, he rambled on and signed of with a ‘Toodles!’. Spent most of the trip listening to Cabin Pressure with Amy, an incredibly appropriate comedy program.
After settling down in our Hostel (I’m getting used to hostels I’ll be honest, but this one was particular egh… six people per room, and poisonous food.) we headed for the East Side Gallery. To quote wikipedia: “The Gallery consists of 105 paintings by artists from all over the world, painted in 1990 on the east side of the Berlin Wall.” and “International Memorial for Freedom” Now I have a soft spot for graffiti, not tags but art, so this was actually quite brilliant. Having studied this period of history allowed to me to interpret quite a few work (knowing russian helped too) though some remained confusing and mad. I’m sure there’re many better photographs than mine of the wall, so I’ll just share a couple of my favourites (I especially liked the writing).
(A couple of favourites turned into quite a few it seems, so you can see the rest on flikr (don’t want to make this post too photo heavy)).
Last but not least, food always fixes everything xD
